The mission of the Department

The mission of the Department is to develop the basics of monitoring and developing a legislative framework for the use and import - export of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in Uzbekistan, as well as to assess potential risks in the creation and use of GMOs.

Tasks of the department

- Studying the world experience in the field of GMO legislation and preparing the basis for the creation of a similar law in Uzbekistan, taking into account local conditions;

- Study of the world experience in the molecular testing of organisms for GMOs and the development of a methodological guideline establishing methods for the identification of genetically engineered modified organisms (GMOs) of plant origin and their presence in food products;

- Study of international experience on the basic norms and principles of risk assessment in the creation and use of GMOs and the development of a national risk assessment system for genetic engineering activities based on international standards, as well as methodological guidelines establishing methods for assessing the risks of using GMOs;

- Strengthening of the material and personnel infrastructure;

- Professional development of the staff.
