   A delegation led by Qu Dongyu, Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), visited the Center for Genomics and Bioinformatics.
The delegation members were provided with detailed information regarding the Center's research capabilities, modern laboratories, infrastructure, and the scientific studies being conducted in the fields of molecular biology and bioinformatics.
   The delegation also showed great interest in the favorable scientific environment established at the Center—which enables researchers and young scientists to conduct cutting-edge research, participate in international projects, exchange experience, and develop innovative solutions—as well as the research being carried out in the Center's laboratories on crop genomics, marker-assisted selection, and gene and cell engineering.

Professor Zabardast T. Buriyev, Director of the Center for Genomics and Bioinformatics and a Doctor of Biological Sciences, has been included in the international "Top 1000 Scholars 2026" ranking. 

   Another gratifying scientific milestone has been achieved by the team at the Center for Genomics and Bioinformatics. Zabardast T. Buriyev secured the 974th position globally. Furthermore, he ranked 3rd in Uzbekistan within this "World Top 1000" list. This result demonstrates that the scientist's research in the fields of cotton science and cultivation has received well-deserved recognition within the international scientific ranking system. Such achievements serve to further elevate the significance of research conducted in modern biology, genetics, genomics, bioinformatics, and agriculture within the global scientific community. 

  The team at the Center for Genomics and Bioinformatics sincerely congratulates Zabardast T. Buriyev on this achievement and wishes him continued success, fruitful international collaborations, and outstanding results in his future research endeavors.

   On September 29 of this year, representatives of foreign delegations from Australia, Brazil, the United States of America, and several other countries visited the Center for Genomics and Bioinformatics; during the visit, special attention was paid to studying the genetic characteristics of promising cotton varieties "Ravnaq" and "Porloq" grown in Uzbekistan, identifying biologically and economically important traits, and conducting research based on modern genomics and bioinformatics methods.

  The guests were provided with detailed information about the research potential of the center, modern laboratories, infrastructure, and scientific research in the fields of molecular biology and bioinformatics.

A REPUBLICAN SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE ON "MODERN ISSUES IN GENETICS, GENOMICS, AND BIOTECHNOLOGY" WAS HELD AT THE CENTER FOR GENOMICS AND BIOINFORMATICS.

     This scientific conference served as a significant academic event dedicated to discussing pressing issues in genetics, genomics, bioinformatics, biotechnology, and modern biological research, as well as to further fostering scientific collaboration among scientists and specialists.

The participation of scientists and experts from Russia, Belarus, and Norway was of great importance for the development of international scientific cooperation.

Particular attention was paid to modern trends in the development of genetics and genomics, the study of biodiversity, the efficient use of genetic resources, and the development and practical implementation of modern biotechnological approaches.

SCIENTIFIC TRAINING IN CHINA.

       From July 12 to August 2, 2026, researchers from the Center for Genomics and Bioinformatics—H.N. Yusupov, A.A. Sharifjonov, and Sh.R. Khusanbayeva—participated in a scientific internship as part of the "Chinese + Intelligent Bioengineering" international program organized by the Dalian University of Technology (DUT) and the BGI Center in the People's Republic of China.
The participants studied modern research approaches and technologies in the fields of genomics, bioinformatics, multi-omics, and plant biotechnology, and took part in practical training sessions.
During the internship, knowledge and skills were acquired in the following areas:
🔹 genomics and modern sequencing technologies;
🔹 bioinformatics and biological data analysis;
🔹 multi-omics approaches;
🔹 plant biotechnology and modern biotechnological methods;
🔹 modern laboratory approaches in genomic and biotechnological research;
🔹 familiarization with the operations of BGI scientific laboratories and modern research centers;
🔹 scientific dialogue and exchange of experience with professors and researchers. Such international collaborations in the scientific sphere contribute to the further development of genomics and bioinformatics in our country.

A SCIENTIFIC SEMINAR WAS HELD ON SEPTEMBER 14 AT THE CENTER FOR GENOMICS AND BIOINFORMATICS.

Professor Pavel Pevzner expressed his opinion about the development of DNA sequencing technologies based on long reads and the new opportunities arising from obtaining complete sequences of genomes and metagenomes, focusing on biological discoveries made as a result of the research of the so-called "dark" regions of the genome. Young scientific staff and doctoral students actively participated in the seminar with questions that interested them, and gained useful information about modern research methods in the fields of genomics and bioinformatics. The participants emphasized that the seminar is of great importance in the exchange of scientific experience, the development of international scientific cooperation, and the encouragement of young researchers to new scientific researches.

  In the article - multiple traits, such as yield, quality, disease, and stress resistance, can be improved together by accurately and partially regulating plant genes using RNAi.

 The history level of "Porloq" also gave impetus to the formation of the Center for Genomics and Bioinformatics.

A team of young scientists around the small laboratory, based on new genetic technologies and breeding work, established the Center, which is equipped with modern sequencers and other genomic instruments. In 2013, a new building and a modern experimental station were commissioned. In 2017, by decree of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the Center was further strengthened within the system of the Academy of Sciences. Looking back today, "Porloq" served to form not only a series of varieties, but also an entire scientific school and a platform for genomic technologies.

An event dedicated to the 35th anniversary of independence was held at the Center for Genomics and Bioinformatics.

      Scientists, researchers, and young researchers working at our center are conducting research in the most advanced areas of modern science, working selflessly to develop genomics and bioinformatics, train young personnel, and strengthen international scientific cooperation.

The Director of the Center, Z.T. Buriev, expressed deep gratitude to all employees for their hard and honorable work, dedication to science, initiative, and worthy contribution to the development of our country.

INTERNATIONAL RECOGNITION IN GENOMICS AND BIOINFORMATICS.

    The research results of scientists from the Center for Genomics and Bioinformatics of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan have once again received international recognition

From July 16 to 18, 2026, the KIWIE 2026 - Korea International Women's Invention Exposition international exhibition and competition was held at the COEX exhibition complex in Seoul.

Babadjanova Feruza Ikramovna, a senior researcher at the Center's Transgenomics and Tissue Culture Laboratory and Doctor of Philosophy in Biological Sciences, participated in the competition with innovative developments based on scientific research conducted in collaboration with her mentors.

 The presented developments were highly praised by the international panel of experts for their scientific novelty, practical significance, and innovative potential, and were awarded a GOLD MEDAL.

This achievement demonstrates that the scientific research conducted at the Center is being recognized by the international scientific community.

Khurshida Ubaydullaeva, Head of the Laboratory of Transgenomics and Tissue Culture at the Center for Genomics and Bioinformatics and Doctor of Biological Sciences, participated in this prestigious international competition with innovative developments based on the results of scientific research conducted jointly with the Center's staff.

 The presented developments were highly appreciated by the international expert jury of the competition in terms of scientific novelty, practical significance and innovative potential, and were awarded two gold medals.

 This achievement demonstrates the international recognition of scientific research conducted at the Center for Genomics and Bioinformatics.

   The World Cotton Day Partner Conference traces its roots back to the first World Cotton Day celebration, which took place at the WTO headquarters in 2019. Agriculture of New Uzbekistan: from digital transformation to global competition.

    The 2nd issue of the analytical journal "Economic Bulletin of Uzbekistan" dated August 13, 2026, published an interview with Minister of Agriculture Ibrokhim Abdurakhmonov titled "Agriculture of New Uzbekistan: From Digital Transformation to Global Competitiveness."

During the conversation, issues of digitalization of the agricultural sector, introduction of modern technologies, increasing productivity, efficient use of water and land resources, expansion of export potential and strengthening competitiveness in global markets were discussed.

The interview also highlights the role of artificial intelligence, drones, satellite technologies, and digital platforms in agricultural management, prospects for modernizing production processes, attracting investment to the sector, and increasing the production and export of high-value-added products.

During the conversation, the Minister also expressed his opinion on the priority tasks of developing the agricultural sector based on science and innovation, creating new opportunities for farmers and entrepreneurs, improving product quality, and strengthening the position of Uzbekistan's agriculture in international markets.

During the conversation, the current state of agriculture in New Uzbekistan, ongoing reforms, and future development prospects were extensively analyzed.

Eight rules for achieving high yields.

     Uzbekistan's cotton ripening management model based on the "8 Rules" is not a new chemical preparation, but a new management architecture. It prepares the field for the physiological target of August 1st starting from spring by ensuring sufficient plant density, effective macro- and micro-nutrition, and stress and growth management; then, the senescence signal → physiological defoliation → conditional desiccation → transitions into the timely harvesting chain. Some of its elements are known in world practice, but in the sources I compared, I did not find a complete system that combined these elements with the national "8 Rules," a clear seasonal goal, and a culture of mass farming. The current implementation of nearly 500,000 hectares now provides a unique opportunity to transform its practical signal into measurable scientific evidence.

A new project in the newspaper "Yangi Uzbekistan": Journalist and artificial intelligence. 

        In today's modern world, artificial intelligence is becoming the main criterion determining the upward trends in all areas. AI is rapidly entering various aspects of human daily life, from defense, industry, transport, construction, communications, let's say, all areas.

Artificial intelligence provides us with the results of scientific research conducted over the years in seconds. There is talk that it offers the best and most optimal, one might say, incredible solutions to problems. Even in world experience, we observe that important decisions are being made using the capabilities of artificial intelligence in government administration.

Another important aspect is that even the most famous experts and specialists in the world rely on AI when assessing the existing reality, drawing conclusions about a system or a certain period. They express great confidence in the evidence and analysis it provides. Not only does it provide unbiased conclusions based on thousands and millions of sources, but it also presents a comprehensive and objective point of view.

Now, another important point. Today, artificial intelligence has also begun to have its say in media structures. Mass media, relying on advanced approaches, have already begun to use its capabilities. We call this media convergence with a modern interpretation.

The editorial office of the “Yangi Uzbekiston” newspaper, continuing its progressive traditions in the direction of media convergence, has also begun to implement a new project on the eve of the 35th anniversary of our Independence. We called it “Journalist and Artificial Intelligence”.

Now, under this column, we will bring to your attention the achievements in various fields, innovations being implemented, and most importantly, the positive or negative impact of such systemic changes on people's lives, analyzed not only with the help of traditional, but also with the help of artificial intelligence.

Our goal is to see how the principle that the reforms being implemented in our country should, first of all, serve the interests of our people is reflected in life? How effective are the innovations and changes being made in the fields? What other aspects should we pay more attention to in the future?

We will try to find answers to such questions with the help of artificial intelligence, and if we have any shortcomings, we will analyze them. In a word, we will hold a mirror up to ourselves. After all, an objective assessment of our actions, whether it is criticism or praise, is of great importance for the future activities of each of us, and it should be so.

We started the first topic of our project with the agricultural sector of our country. As our regular subscribers know, we are publishing a series of articles on measures taken in our country to ensure food security, increase crop yields, supply environmentally friendly products to our people's tables, prevent shortages of agricultural products, and maintain moderate prices for them.

Such articles, among other things, mention that in the 2026 cotton season, the Ministry of Agriculture of Uzbekistan has introduced the "8 Rules" system aimed at achieving high yields, which considers processes ranging from bush thickness and planting scheme to plant architecture management, balanced nutrition with macro and microelements, stress protection, early formation of the main crop, signaling senescence, defoliation, desiccation, and timely harvesting as a single technological system.

“The goal is not just to grow cotton, but to ripen it in a short season and harvest the entire crop,” say industry officials.

In order to explain this approach to farmers, the ministry and industry representatives have published popular articles, organized online lectures, field seminars, and practical training. In particular, they put forward the approach that cotton should be managed from spring in such a way that by around August 1, at least 200,000 healthy plants per hectare and 8-10 well-developed bolls per plant, which are part of the main crop, are formed. August 1 is not the date when all fields are sprayed with the drug at the same time, but rather a targeted physiological milestone to which agrotechnology for the entire season is directed. The published explanations also describe the senescence signal, subsequent defoliation, and desiccation as a single chain aimed at not leaving the crop in the field in the short growing season of Uzbekistan.
