International Cotton Advisory Committee awarded the Director of the Centre of Genomics and Bioinformatics of Uzbek Academy of Sciences, the Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor Ibrokhim Abdurakhmonov for fundamental studies of the genome of cotton.
"Gene knockout is a method of molecular genetics, which gives an opportunity to stop the activity of certain genes and produce a plant with "disabled"(knockout) genes. Having identified the differences between samples of normal and knockout organisms, the activity of certain genes can either be enhanced or suppressed, thus controlling yield, maturity, resistance to pests and insects, and other characteristics", - said Abdurakhmonov.
