Another foreign patent was received
for the development of scientists of Uzbekistan

On July 8, 2018, the Federal Service for Intellectual Property (ROSPATENT) of the Russian Federation issued a patent for innovative technology of knockout (deactivation) of cotton genes, developed by the Center for Genomics and Bioinformatics of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan. This is another acknowledgment of the achievements of scientists of Uzbekistan in the field of biotechnology at the international level.

As you know, a patent is the main tool on the way to the commercialization of development and in this regard, it is sometimes very difficult to obtain a patent abroad and especially if the development is high-tech. The application for patenting this technology in Russia was filed by Uzbek scientists in 2013 and only 5 years after long correspondence, the Federal Service for Intellectual Property granted a patent for our technology.

It is extremely important to note that recently the government of Uzbekistan pays great attention to the development of scientific research and the commercialization of their results. Dozens of decrees and decrees have been issued, which open up new opportunities for scientists and contribute to the effective implementation of the fruits of their labor for the benefit of the country. In addition, on the instructions of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, a presidential fund for the commercialization of scientific and technical activities results is being established with the opening of its accounts in IKTB Ipoteka Bank in the amount of $ 100 million. These factors will contribute to further strengthening the work on patenting new innovative developments of domestic scientists abroad.

Earlier, the technology of scientists in Uzbekistan was obtained in the US and Uzbekistan, and a new patent extends its licensing capabilities on a global scale.

For reference:

This technology was developed by Uzbek scientists in 2008 and further research with the support of the Government of Uzbekistan led to the development of high-yield, early-maturing, long-fiber, drought-resistant and salt-tolerant biotech cotton varieties of the Porlock series. The technology has made it possible to improve several agronomically valuable features of cotton at the same time, which was not the case in the world history of plant breeding and genetic engineering. Currently, Porlock varieties are sold at 12% more expensive than conventional fibers and they have a very high demand in the world market. In 2017, the seeds of "Porlock" varieties were planted on the territory of about 70 thousand hectares in the republic. It should also be noted that the Center for Genomics and Bioinformatics is working intensively to obtain new, high-yielding, high-quality and resistant to drought, salt, cold and disease varieties of other important crops such as grapes, wheat, beets, potatoes In particular, new high-yield gene-knockout potato varieties have already been obtained and commercialization has begun.
